About Me

“I hope that, above all, my poems will make the reader/listener smile.

A little background

Rory Stuart is a husband and father of two delightfully precocious children. He studied to be a screenwriter at Bournemouth University, but after meeting his wife-to-be, they decided they wanted to build a family on the South Coast and therefore away from the hubs of British film-making.

He then trained and succeeded in becoming an air traffic controller but never lost a desire to create. So when his children arrived, he became inspired to write poetic stories for, and sometimes about, them.

He is also working on his first children’s book about a detective pig called Moreton Pinkney!

My journey

“I began writing poems primarily to entertain my own kids, to make them smile and inspire their imaginations. I remember loving and writing limericks as a boy and in fact the first poems I put to paper as an adult were limericks about each of my children. They really loved hearing their names in these short, silly stories.

From there my poetic storytelling grew, sometimes moving into the area of humorous nonsense, and sometimes into the direction of heartfelt whimsy. Whatever I write I hope to make the reader/listener smile.

After a while I began an Instagram page as a way of sharing my stories with the public. I have received loads of positive feedback that has inspired me to keep going and branch out. I have now written several longer form poems that I hope to get turned into picture books. And am also working on a book for early readers, aged 7-10, about a crime solving pig called Moreton Pinkney.

My kids continue to be my inspiration as well as my test audience! My wife is my biggest fan and I hope others will enjoy my work as much as they do. Phillip Pullman is quoted as saying, “After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.” And I couldn’t agree more.

My recent work

Poems on parenting, childish antics, wonder and curiosity. Poems that will hopefully make you smile. Enjoy!

Featured Prints

If you enjoy my work then I am pleased to offer you the chance to buy prints of some of my favourite pieces. Each poem is brought to life by the artwork of the wonderfully talented Roisin Hahessy, and would look ideal hanging in a bedroom or playroom.
